HISTORIE

Die Galerie wurde 1995 von dem Maler Gerold Maier und dem Kulturwissenschaftler Dr. Claus-Peter Böhner-Fery unter dem Namen GALERIE A1 (nach dem Standort Akademiestrasse 1) in Heidelberg begründet. Alsbald erwiesen sich die Räumlichkeiten als zu klein, so dass Anfang 1996 ein Umzug nach Mannheim in die Räume der ehemaligen Galerie  Halskratz von Angelo Falzone in die Schwetzinger Strasse 91 erfolgte. Zugleich wurde der Ausstellungsbetrieb nach dem Namen des künstlerischen Leiters in GALERIE BÖHNER umbenannt. Fortan wurde in Mannheim internationale Kunst mit Schwerpunkt Malerei und Plastik präsentiert Auch wurde der Galerie eine Edition angeschlossen, die lokale Literatur sowie Kunst veröffentlicht. 1998 fand erneut ein Umzug statt. Seitdem hat die GALERIE BÖHNER ihren Sitz im SIGNAL IDUNA Business Tower am Willy-Brandt-Platz 5 & 6 in Geschäftsräumen der 1. und 2. Etage. Die Galerie kooperiert hier mit den namhaften Mannheimer Unternehmen “J&M MANAGEMENT CONSULTING  AG” sowie “Prof. Homburg & Partner“ getreu dem Motto des Galeristen: Das Oasendasein von Galerien muss ein Ende haben; die Kunst muss dorthin gehen, wo sich das Leben abspielt und nicht umgekehrt. In halbjährlichem Wechsel veranstaltet die Galerie Gemeinschaftsausstellungen mit internationalen Künstlern. 

Seit 2001organisiert die GALERIE BÖHNER auch in der City der Quadratestadt in G7, 7 in regelmäßigem Turnus Ausstellungen mit renommierten internationalen Künstlern sowie Stammkünstlern der Galerie. Seit April 2002 hat die GALERIE BÖHNER einen weiteren Standort in Mannheim: in den Geschäftsräumen der BECHTLE IT-SYSTEMHAUS MANNHEIM AG in der Besselstrasse 22 im Industriegebiet Mannheim-Mallau organisiert die GALERIE BÖHNER zweimal im Jahr eine grosse Gemeinschaftsausstellung mit Künstlern aus dem In- und Ausland.

Darüber hinaus nahm die GALERIE BÖHNER bis 2004 regelmäßig an den MANNHEIMER GALERIENTAGEN in Zusammenarbeit mit der Mannheimer Kunsthalle teil, die im örtlichen Kunstverein stattfinden und mittlerweile so etwas wie eine regionale Kunstmesse darbieten. Im Herbst 2002 war die GALERIE BÖHNER erstmalig auf der KUNSTMESSE SALZBURG mit drei Ausstellungsräumen vertreten, im Sommer 2003 auf der art bodensee im österreichischen Dornbirn. Im Februar 2005 wird die GALERIE BÖHNER erstmalig auf der ART INNSBRUCK vertreten sein, im April/Mai 2006 auf der AKZENTA GRAZ und im Februar 2008 auf der KUNSTMESSE OSNABRÜCK. Ab 2010 kamen die renommierten Messestandorte ROTTERDAM, BERLIN und BOZEN dazu.

Aufgrund der langjährigen Ausstellungsarbeit hat sich mittlerweile ein Kreis von Stammkünstlern etabliert, der von der Galerie intensiv betreut wird. EXHIBITION-CONCEPT/HISTORY

The painter Gerold Maier and the cultural scientist Dr. Claus-Peter Böhner-Fery originally established the gallery in Heidelberg in 1995. Back then - originating from its location in the Akademiestrasse 1 - it was called GALERIE A1. Soon thereafter more space was needed and in early 1996 the gallery moved to new premises in Mannheim: the former gallery Halskratz of Angelo Falzone located in the Schwetzinger Strasse 91. At the same time the gallery was renamed into GALERIE BÖHNER, carrying now the name of its art director. From then on the gallery presented international art focusing on painting and sculptures in Mannheim. On top the gallery started to publish local literature and art in an own edition. In 1998 the gallery moved again. Since then premises on the first and second floor of the SIGNAL IDUNA Business Tower at Willy-Brandt-Platz 5 & 6 are the home of the gallery. There it cooperates with the well-known companies “J&M MANAGEMENT CONSULTING AG” and “Prof. Homburg & Partner” – both from Mannheim. This is fully along the lines of the motto of the gallery owner: Galleries need to stop existing like in oases; art needs to go where the real life is and not vice versa. Every six months the gallery now presents international artists in joint temporary exhibitions.  

Since 2001 the GALERIE BÖHNER has regularly organized exhibitions with renowned, international artists as well as with artists regularly cooperating with the gallery also in G7, 7 in the centre of the City of Squares. Since April 2002 the GALERIE BÖHNER engages in an additional location: In the premises of the BECHTLE IT-SYSTEMHAUS MANNHEIM AG located in the Besselstrasse 22 in the industrial park Mannheim-Mallau the GALERIE BÖHNER organizes twice a year a big joint exhibition of national and international artists.  

In addition, up to the year 2004 the GALERIE BÖHNER participated regularly in the MANNHEIMER GALERIETAGE in cooperation with the Mannheimer Kunsthalle, which take place at the local Kunstverein (art society) and have meanwhile developed into something like a regional art fair. In fall 2002 the GALERIE BÖHNER exhibited for the first time at the KUNSTMESSE SALZBURG (art fair Salzburg) featuring three exhibition rooms; in summer 2003 then at the art Bodensee in Dornbirn, Austria. In February 2005 the GALERIE BÖHNER had its debut at the ART INNSBRUCK; in April/May 2006 followed the AKZENTA GRAZ and in February 2008 the KUNSTMESSE OSNABRÜCK (art fair Osnabrück). Since 2010 the gallery has extended its presence also to the renowned fair locations ROTTERDAM, BERLIN and BOZEN.
